STONINGTON – Lynden B. Gross, 84, died unexpectedly Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2004, at his home in Stoning-ton. He was born March 12, 1920, in Oceanville, the son of Lester and Betsy (Lufkin) Gross. Lynden was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theatre, from before Guadalcanal until the end of the war. He was an active 58 year member of the American Legion Post No. 102 in Stonington, the Cruiser Sailor Association and the VFW. Lynden enjoyed fishing and being on the water. He also enjoyed sporting events, particularly baseball and the University of Connecticut Women’s Basketball Team. Lynden also liked being around people, being a chauffeur, visiting and being visited and playing cards. He was a wonderful father and grandfather to his family. Lynden is survived by his son, Benjamin Gross and his wife, Mary, of East Hartford, Conn.; a grandson, James Gross of East Hartford, Conn.; a niece, Betty Billings; many great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his wife, Phylene E. (Sturdee) Gross. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Tootie McCauley, Marie Hardy and Paul Sewall for the many kindnesses and loving care given to Lynden during his summer stays in Stonington. Friends are invited to visit with the family 1-3 p.m. Saturday at the Bragdon-Kelley-Campbell Funeral Home, Main Street, Stonington, where funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday with Elder Dowe Eaton officiating. Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery, Oceanville.
