BANGOR – June Shannon, 96, the wife of the late John P. Shannon, died peacefully Oct. 18, 2005, at a local hospital. She was born June 6, 1909, in Bangor, the daughter of Albert and Mary Ann (Rice) Doherty. June was an employee of Freese’s Department Store for 32 years and for many years in the Millinery Department as the hat buyer. A position she took much pride and enjoyment from. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and St. Mary’s Sodality. She is survived by her loving niece and nephew-in-law, Jacquelyn and Alfred Frawley of Bangor and their children, Alfred and Pollyanne Frawley of North Yarmouth and their children and Andrew and Julianne Frawley of Wayland, Mass. and their children; a niece Deborah Geller and husband, Daniel, of West Hartford, Conn.; a sister-in-law, Virginia Doherty Drew of Chatham, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews and many friends at Longrale Park. She was predeceased by three brothers, James, Joseph, and Albert Doherty; a sister, Catherine Doherty Hoffman; and two sisters-in-law, Estelle Robinson and Barbara Doherty. Friends are invited to visit with the family 4-6 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 20, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 2:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 754 Ohio St., Bangor. Interment will be at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Bangor. The family invites relatives and friend to share conversation and refreshments at the Brookings-Smith Family Center, 163 Center St., Bangor, following the service.
