STERLING, Va. – M. Ruth Bagley, 71, passed away peacefully Friday, June 23, 2006, surrounded by her loving family. She was born March 16, 1935, in Chicago, Ill. She received her nursing degree from Washington University in St Louis, Mo. She spent most of her adulthood in Aroostook County, where she raised her family. She moved to Orono shortly before retirement and then to Sterling, Va. where she lived the remainder of her life. She worked as director of nursing for the Presque Isle Nursing Home, and then for the state of Maine for 10 years as a state nursing home inspector. She was an active member of the ladies auxiliary of the VFW for many years and enjoyed traveling to national conventions. During the late 1970s, she was an active member of the band boosters in Presque Isle. Her favorite activities were knitting and crocheting, and she taught adult education needlework classes in Presque Isle. She was predeceased by her parents, Frank and Mona Dettloff of Chicago, Ill. and her sister, Joan Cray of Mapleton. She is survived by her sons, David Bagley of Merrimack, N.H., Douglas Oliver of Tilton, N.H., Daniel Bagley of Ashburn, Va., and Dana Bagley of Morrill; four daughters-in-law, 12 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held noon June 29, at the Ashburn Presbyterian Church, Ashburn, Va. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. at the same location. A committal service will be held July 8, at the West Chapman Cemetery in Mapleton. Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made either to the National Kidney Foundation of the National Capital Area, or the Loudoun County Area Agency on Aging.
