WINTERPORT – Madeline A. (Lang) Hammond, 80, beloved wife of the late, Carl P. Hammond, died Nov. 23, 2005, at a Bangor hospital. She was born Sept. 11, 1925, in Winterport, the daughter of Donald and Sevelina (Murray) Lang. Madeline lived in Winterport most of her life. She was educated in Winterport schools and was salutatorian of Winterport High School, Class of 1943. Madeline was a faithful and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grand-mother and a true friend to many. She was proud to have devoted her life to her family, as a stay-at-home wife and mother. She is survived by her children, twins, Bruce Chandler and his wife, Sheila, of Swanville and Judy Chandler of Palm Coast, Fla. and Gerald Hammond and his wife, Nancy, of Houlton; sister, Janet Nakai and her husband, Richard, of Bangor; grandchildren, Allan Hammond of Hermon, Alane Hammond of Fairfield, Bruce Chandler II of Virginia Beach, Va., Mark Chandler of Salem, N.H., Jason Chandler of Albuquerque, N.M. and Joel Wescott of Gouldsboro; three great-grandchildren, Ashley and Meghan Hope and Miranda Chandler. Special friends who helped make it possible for Madeline to stay in her home after the loss of her husband, Carl; Marion and Jim Buss, Andrea Preble and Hamilton Richards, Mary and Lewis Philbrick and Derol Gibbs. Madeline was predeceased by her parents; her husband of 51 years, Carl, in 2000; son, Wayne Hammond, in 1965; a grandson, Wayne Wescott, in 1983; and a sister, Ioma Riley, in 1995. The family will be gathering for words of prayer 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 25, at the Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Ave., Hampden, where close friends are welcome to visit with the family 6-7 p.m. A graveside service will be held 3 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2, at Pilgrims Home Cemetery, Monroe.
