ORONO – Madeline “Nan” “Maddie” Durham, 68, wife of the late Walter G. Durham, died Sept. 11, 2005, at a Bangor hospital. She was born Feb. 13, 1937, in Farmington, the daughter of William G. and Bettie E. (Merchant) Woods. She was formerly employed with Mass General of Boston, Wrentham State Hospital, St. Joseph’s Hospital, Eastern Maine Medical Center and Acadia Hospital, Bangor. Madeline was a member of the Orono Garden Club and the Women’s Club. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a daughter, Cynthia Durham. Surviving are one daughter, Laura Durham Anderson; one grandson, David Mars Anderson IV both of Orono; three sisters, Margaret Gustafson and her husband, David, of Ball Ground, Ga., Gail W. Smith and her husband, David, of Sidney, Blanche W. Sanborn of Fryburg and her late husband, Harold Sanborn; several nieces and nephews. Private services will be held Tuesday at Brookings-Smith LaBeau Chapel, 72 Main St., Orono, with the Rev. Wilfred Labbe pastor of Our Lady of Wisdom, (Newman Center) Orono, officiating. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery. Gifts in her memory may be sent to Eastern Maine Charities, EMMC, Cancer Fund, P.O. Box 404, Bangor, 04402-0404; or to a charity of one’s choice.
