BREWER – Madeline Estelle (Chase) York, 94, died and went to the Lord Feb. 23, 2007. She was the born Oct. 23, 1912, on the farm in Hampden. She was the last survivor of Amy (Norris) Chase, mother; Ernest P. Chase, father; Eleanor (Chase) Clukey, sister; Milard Chase, brother; Lynwood Chase, brother. She graduated from Hampden Academy, June 4, 1930 and married Austin A. York, Nov. 10, 1934. Madeline completed a technical nursing course in physical therapy June 30, 1973, while working at Eastern Maine Medical Center. She raised her teenage son, Ronnie while taking care of an 11-room home, her elderly father and James Rooney, who was blind. Madeline was a member of the First Congregational Church of Brewer and a member of Kiungs Daughters. Madeline is survived by her daughter, Alicia and her husband, Fred Bergsten; her son, Norris York; and a special daughter-in-law, Jenine and her son, Ronald and wife, Susan York. Madeline leaves behind nine grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, special nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Friends are invited to visit with the family 11-noon Monday, Feb. 26, at Brookings-Smith, Clark-Piper Chapel, 55 S. Main St., Brewer, where funeral services will be held noon, with the Rev. Dr. Rex Garrett, director of Chaplaincy Services of Eastern Maine Medical Center, officiating. Interment will be in the spring at Woodlawn Cemetery, Brewer. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at Brookings-Smith Reception Rooms after the service.
