BRADSTREET NIPOMO, Calif. – The many friends of Madeline Bradstreet will be sorry to learn of her death that occurred Jan. 19, 2004, at her home in Nipomo, Calif. She was very patient and strong in her sufferings with cancer. She was a quiet home loving person who will be greatly missed by her loved ones and friends. Madeline was the eldest daughter of Walter and Zella (Dickinson) Welch. She was born April 28, 1912, in Mars Hill. Her early years were spent on a farm in Bridgewater. She spent many years traveling and working in Connecticut, Michigan and Alaska. She has spent her retirement years in California with her daughter, Patricia. She loved to work outside in her garden and did a lot of canning. Oh those molasses cookies and bread and butter pickles! Her greatest passion was knitting items for all the family. Everyone waited for her handiwork at Christmas. Madeline is survived by daughter, Patricia Chandler of Nipomo, Calif.; son and daughter-in-law, Arlo and Joan Bradstreet of Sutton, Ala. and Burnham; daughter, Anna West of Imlay City, Mich.; brother, Max Welch of Santa Maria, Calif.; sisters, Gladys Gardner and Theresa Cameron, both of Houlton. She was blessed with seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; in addition to a host of other relatives and friends to whom the sympathies of all are extended. Burial and graveside services will be in the spring in Bridgewater. Memorial donations may be made to Marian Hospital HomeCare and Hospice, P.O. Box 1238, Santa Maria, CA 93456.
