PRESQUE ISLE – Mahlon P. Bither, 71, died Saturday, Dec. 20, 2003, at his home. He was born Aug. 19, 1932, at Houlton, the son of Maynard and Marietta (Nason) Bither. Mahlon served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He worked as a lineman for New England Telephone for 35 years, retiring in 1989, and then worked for North Maine Woods maintaining campsites from 1989-2001. Mahlon was an avid outdoorsman, enjoyed fishing and hunting, and was a devoted father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Joyce (Clark) Bither of Presque Isle; a son, Dana of Raleigh, N.C.; two daughters and their husbands, Darcy and Bob McBay of Jamestown, N.C., Denise and Eric Eldridge of Kenduskeag; seven grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents; a brother, Jerry; and a daughter, Deborah Kierstead in June 2001. There will be no calling. A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2003, at the Grant Memorial Methodist Church, Fleetwood Street, Presque Isle, with the Rev. Thomas Backstone officiating. Those who wish may donate to the American Cancer Society or to the Grant Memorial Methodist Church. Envelopes will be available at the service.
