CALAIS – Malcolm LeRoy Little Sr., 91, died peacefully July 15, 2007, surrounded by his loving family, at his home. He was born Aug. 31, 1915, in Pembroke, the son of LeRoy and Mila (Carter) Little. Malcolm graduated from Pembroke High School, Class of 1932. After high school, he played on many local baseball teams and even went on to play semi-professional baseball for a Red Sox minor league team. His love and ability in baseball gave him the honor to play in Fenway Park. He spoke fondly of the chance he got to catch for Dizzy Dean. From his memorable experiences, he was a lifelong Red Sox fan. At age 19, he began his working career at the Civilian Conservation Corps. He then went on to work for the Maine Baking Co. Malcolm enlisted in the U.S. Army in February 1942, in the 8th Regimen 4th Infantry Division at Camp Croft. He was a highly decorated survivor of D-day, Utah Beach. He was one of the only surviving members of the Railway Mail serving from 1946 to 1959. He went on to work for the U.S. Postal Service from 1959 until his retirement in Portland in 1973. He was an active member in many organizations including, The Masons, Odd-Fellows, American Legion, and served as selectman for the town of Pembroke. He will always be remembered as a fair and kind man with a dry wit. He enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren play all their sporting activities. He was always an avid fan of horse racing. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, Rudolph and Reginald Andrews; and two sisters, Leona Grant and Marguerite (Tarbell) Mitchell. He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Marjorie Ann Little; children, Malcolm LeRoy Little Jr. and wife, Diane, of Orrington, Heather Jean Jamieson and husband, Neil, of Scarborough, and Mark Eric Little Sr. and wife, Valarie, of Calais; special grandchildren, Mark Jr., Michael and Matthew Little, and Ainsley and Lexie Jamieson; nieces, June Magi of California, Joyce Brendal of Washington state, Virginia Bates of Brewer, and Shireen Burse of Eastport; a nephew, Wayne Andrews of Oakland; two sisters-in-law, Coralie Clark and husband, Donald, of Charlotte, and Elizabeth Donaghy of Machias; two brothers-in-law, Noel Nutt and wife, Darlene, of Texas, and Jeff Sprague and wife, Betty, of Machias; and a special cousin and lifelong friend, Frank Boyden of Kennebunk. He will also be missed by many close friends. Memorial services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, July 21, at Ironworks Methodist Church, Pembroke, with the Rev. Hammond officiating. Military honors will be conferred, and a Masonic memorial service will be conducted by the members of Crescent Masonic Lodge. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make donations in Malcolm’s memory may do so to the Salvation Army or to the charity of one’s choice. Arrangements are in care of McClure Family Funeral Services, Lubec.
