BAR HARBOR – Marcus Coleman Sweet, 78, died Feb. 15, 2008. He was born Aug. 7, 1929, in Bar Harbor, the son of Henry C. and Lena (Hoyt) Sweet. Marcus graduated from Bar Harbor High School in 1948. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1950 to 1954, during the Korean War. He married Hope K. Otis of Rome, N.Y., Oct. 29, 1957. Marcus was employed by the U.S. Department of Commerce Bureau of Public Roads and worked for Jackson Laboratory for 32 years before retiring. He was a member of Church of Our Father, Hulls Cove. Marcus is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Hope K. (Otis) Sweet; a son, Ronald M. Sweet of Bar Harbor; three brothers, John C. Sweet and wife, Geraldine, of Bar Harbor, Hoyt C. Sweet and wife, Venita, of Ballstonlake, N.Y., and William F. Sweet and wife, Mary, of Searsport; brother-in-law, David P. Otis and wife, Patricia, of Rome, N.Y.; and sisters-in-law, Arlene “Lenny” Sweet of Hulls Cove and Mrs. Lynn “Abigail” W. Morton and husband, Lynn, of New Hartford, N.Y. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, R. Isabel Dresser of East Holden; and by a brother, Jerome H. Sweet of Clearwater, Fla. A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19, at Jordan-Fernald, 48 Eden St., Bar Harbor. Spring interment will be at Hillside Cemetery, Hulls Cove.
