GLEN COVE – Margaret F. Stevens, 93, formerly of Glen Cove, died May 27, 2005, at Manor Care Health Services in Dallastown, Pa., having been a guest there for one day. She was born July 11, 1911, in Rockport, a daughter of the late Edwin and Belinda (Hall) Stevens. Having lost both her mother and father at an early age, Margaret made her home with grandparents, aunts and uncles. She graduated from the Deerfield High School, in Massachusetts, while living with her Uncle Charles, a congregational minister. Margaret was a graduate of both Nasson College in Springvale, and Simmons College in Boston, Mass. She worked as a Home Economics Teacher in Rockland and in Cape Cod. She became an Extension Agent for the Department of Agriculture through the University of Maine at Orono, retiring from that position in 1976. She was a member of the Salem United Church of Christ, Dover, Pa., and a longtime faithful member of the United Methodist Churches of Old Town and Rockland. A former member of the United Methodist Women, she served that organization in many capacities. Her service to the United Methodist Church included over 25 years as a member of the boards of Methodist Conference Home and the Bartlett Woods project, both in Rockland. She was member of the Business and Professional Women. She will be remembered by her many friends, especially the Rev. Dr. Richard and Janet Smeltzer of York, Pa., with whom she made her home for the past 10 years. A memorial service will be celebrated 1 p.m. Saturday afternoon, Aug. 27, 2005, at the Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 156 Lakeview Drive, (Route 17, across from Lake Chickawakee) in Rockland. Officiating will be the Rev. Kathleen H.N. Towns, the Rev. Howard E. Benson and the Rev. Ralph L. Miller. Interment will be in the family lot in the Riverview Cemetery, Warren. Arrangements are under the direction of Coast of Maine Cremation and Funeral Service, Waldoboro.
