CAMBRIDGE – Our beautiful mother, Marguerite “Dolly” Burdin, 86, died Feb. 23, 2004, at a Dover-Foxcroft hospital. She was born June 14, 1917, in Havelock, New Brunswick, the youngest of two children of Charles and Ina Price. Above everything else she was a “mother” in the absolute sense of the word. She nurtured and cared for each member of her extensive family. She loved us all in our uniqueness and kept us all close in her heart. She truly embodied unconditional love, helped us through our trials in life, and celebrated with our happiness. She was an avid reader and leaves a substantial library behind in her Cambridge home. She read the paper every day and was always ready to discuss politics and world events. She read Scientific American and Discover and Biblical Archaeology. She crocheted, knit, sewed and painted ceramics. She was diversely knowledgeable and creative, from being capable of hand sewing her children’s clothing to discussing the merits of the latest scientific theories and discoveries. As a young couple, her husband was on active duty with the U.S. Army, while she remained in Cambridge with their four children. She helped her husband run a woods operation for most of their lives together. She was a strong and loving woman who will be sadly missed by everyone whose life she touched. She is survived by her children, Dale Burdin and his wife, Kathy, of Cambridge, Ina Smith and her husband, Perley, of Jay, Colby Burdin of Cambridge, June Tarr and her husband, George, of Dover-Foxcroft, Jessie Burdin Jr. and his wife, Tina, of Dexter, Nila Nelson and her husband, David, of Dexter, Susan Cookson and her husband, Chris, of Cambridge, Marguerite “Peggy” Burdin of Westbrook, Steven Burdin and his wife, Shirley, of Cambridge, and Gayle Watson of Guilford; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
