KENDUSKEAG – Marie Elizabeth Thurston, 80, passed away Aug. 15, 2007, surrounded by her loving family, at a Bangor nursing facility. Marie was born Feb. 10, 1927, in Bangor, the daughter of Percy and Helena Laughlin. Marie worked many jobs during her wonderful life. She was a school crossing guard, security guard for local department stores, and worked in an area shoe company. Marie loved being a mother, grandmother, and great-grand-mother. She had time for all her children and grandchildren, and always opened her door to other children in the neighborhood that needed a helping hand. These children today still call her “Mom.” Marie enjoyed writing poetry, especially on special occasions for her family, going to bingo and playing cards. She was a warm, caring, and friendly person and everyone loved her smile. Her children were blessed to have such a devoted mom, and she will be missed by them tremendously. Marie is survived by six children, Brenda Thurston of Kenduskeag, Carol Joyal and her husband, Ken, of New Hampshire, Patricia Mailman and her husband, Barry, of Kenduskeag, Michael Thurston and his wife, Karen, of Auburn, Laura Thurston and her partner, Jack Monroe, of Kenduskeag, and Lisa Thurston and her partner, Scott Hunt, of Kenduskeag; a sister, Joan Poole of Bangor; brothers, Eugene Laughlin and Thomas Laughlin, both of Brewer, and William Laughlin of Hermon; grandchildren, Stacey McLaughlin, Kris Thurston, Diana Scotland and her husband, Paul, Corey Thurston and his wife, Brandi, Michael Thurston, Jr. and his wife, Tracey, Sheila Thurston and her partner, Justin Hedges, Carrie Paradis and her husband, Josh, Scott and Marie Hunt, Stormy and Skye McLain, William Clark III, Brandy Clark, Tina Felix, and Jennifer Davies and her husband, Jay; great-grandchildren, Michael and Jessica McLaughlin, Paul Scotland Jr., Hunter and Autumn Thurston, Garrett Hedges, Grechyn Paradis, Aylssa, Alexis, Steven and Michaela Thurston, Andrea, Christopher and Matt Felix, Chase, Austin and Seth Davies; many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, Marie was predeceased by her daughter, Catherine Thurston, in 2001; brothers, Benny, Ken, and Robert; and a sister, Margaret. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, at Kiley Funeral Home, 69 State St., Brewer, where family and friends may visit 1 p.m. until the service begins. The Rev. Randy Washington will officiate and burial will be at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Bangor. A reception will be held after the burial. Condolences may also be offered online at kileyfuneralhome.com
