NORTHPORT – Marilyn R. Banks, 79, passed away Aug. 28, 2004, at a local hospital with her husband at her side, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was born Jan. 6, 1925, the daughter of Elden and Irma Rhodes. Marilyn graduated from Walker High School in Liberty in 1942, and worked at Truitt Brothers Shoe Co. In 1945, she married Wilfred Banks on Dec. 22, right after Bill returned from World War II. They had two children in Maine, son, Wayne and daughter, Linda. They then moved to Connecticut where Bill worked at Pratt Whitney Aircraft for 26 years. In 1973, they moved back to Maine and have lived in Northport ever since. She was predeceased by her parents and a sister, Dorothea. In addition to her husband, Wilfred “Bill” Banks, she is survived by her son, Wayne and his wife, Kathleen and their sons, Nathan and Adam Banks; a daughter, Linda Banks and her son, Christopher Pattison; brother, Milford Rhodes and his wife, Jessie; sisters, Eldena Larrabee and Cecile Gifford; brothers and sisters-in-law, Richard Banks and wife, Evelyn, Merle Banks Potter, Marie Banks Weymouth, and Robert Banks and wife, Edith; and many nieces and nephews. Marilyn and Bill thoroughly enjoyed camping fishing biking and snowmobiling. She was a wonderful wife, mother and homemaker. She had a great sense of humor and enjoyed relating many funny incidents that happened on their trips. Bill and Marilyn traveled extensively after Bill’s retirement, even to Alaska, and their camper stickers gives evidence of all the other states they visited. There will be a graveside service 3 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 31, at the Grove Cemetery, Belfast, with the Rev. Richard Reynolds officiating. Those wishing to make memorial donations may do so to the charity of your choice. Arrangements are under the care of the Crabiel-Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Ave., Belfast.
