SCARBOROUGH – Marion R. Mehlman, 90, died Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2004, at a Gorham residential care facility. Marion was born in North Gorham, the daughter of Asa M. and Geneva (Libby) Douglass. She was a graduate of Scarborough High School, where she was the valedictorian of the Class of 1932. Mrs. Mehlman was an active member of the Blue Point Congregational Church for more than 70 years where she served on many committees, including the Ladies Guild. She was a past member of the Women’s Republican Group in Scarborough and the Pine Point Fire Company Auxiliary. Mrs. Mehlman worked in the office at F.H. Snow Canning Company in Pine Point, retiring in 1979. She enjoyed many summers at the family camp at Sebago Lake in Standish. Marion was married to Clifford Mehlman, April 30, 1937. She was predeceased by her husband in 1943. She was also predeceased by brothers, Lloyd, Asa Jr., and Neil Douglass; and sisters, Marjorie Snow, Grace Douglass, Imogene Anderson, and Jeannette Lary. Survivors include her son, Howard B. and wife, Janice Mehlman, of Millinocket; daughter, Marilyn G. and husband, John Burwell, of Punta Gorda, Fla.; brother, Leonard R. Douglass of Pine Point; grandchildren, Carolyn Mehlman and husband, Marc Jacques, of Old Orchard Beach, Charles E.L. and wife, Nery Burwell, of Hood River Ore., Meredith (Burwell) and husband, Craig Oestreicher of Yarmouth; along with many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held 9-10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 18, 2004, at the Blue Point Congregational Church with a 10 a.m. memorial service to follow. Interment to take place in the spring.
