BANGOR – Marjorie B. (Marsh) Quigg, wife of the late Paul H. Quigg, died June 14, 2004, at a Bangor nursing facility. She was born Sept. 25, 1917, in Brewer, the daughter of Forrest and Queenie (Danforth) Marsh. She graduated from Brewer High School, where she was a founder of the Se Beowulf Club in 1933. She worked for several years as a legal secretary for Judge Lewis Stearns and the firm of Stearns, Finnegan and Needham. She used her acquired research skills in pursuing a lifelong interest in genealogy. Descended from 14 passengers aboard the Mayflower, she was a member of the Society of Mayflower Descendants in the state of Maine. She also had belonged to the Hampden Historical Society, the Brewer Historical Society, the Bangor Historical Society, Maine Old Cemetery Association, the Maine Genealogical Society, the Maine Historical Society and the New England Historic Genealogical Society. She was known for her willingness to help others trace their genealogy, and often spent hours compiling information to share with correspondents from around the country. She and Ruth Gray spent thousands of hours indexing Penobscot County probate records. Marjorie had an abiding passion in the interests of peace and social justice, and was proud to have joined the March for Peace in Washington in 1970. She also was chairman of the China study group of the Bangor League of Women Voters. In 1966, she was panelist for the Social Concerns and Human Rights forum as the Unitarian-Universalist Envoy at the United Nations in New York City. Marjorie was married to Paul Hathaway Quigg for 48 years when he died Oct. 22, 1985. She was also predeceased by two sisters, Marion Perkins and Dorothy Chaison; and one brother, Forrest “Bud” Marsh Jr. She is survived by her daughter, Nancy and son-in-law, David Smith, of Hampden, formerly of Taunton, Mass.; two grandsons and their wives, Jeffrey and Kristin Smith of Arlington, Mass., and Jonathan and Lori Ann Smith of Bangor; three great-grandchildren, Ian Hathaway Smith and Caileigh Mariah Smith of Arlington, Mass., and George Hamilton Smith of Bangor; and several nieces and nephews. Family graveside services will be held in the fall in Woodlawn Cemetery, Brewer.
