Marjorie Buck Smallwood died peacefully Thursday, April 28, 2005, in her home. She was born May 30, 1924, in Caribou, the daughter of Percy H. and Edith (Driscoll) Buck. She graduated from Caribou High School and Husson College. Marjorie taught school in Patten, Fort Fairfield and Wilton before moving to Waterville in 1963, where she was a business education teacher at Waterville High School for 21 years, retiring in 1984. A member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, she served as historian for the state affiliate, Alpha Psi State, and in various capacities with the local Kappa Chapter. She was very active at Senior Spectrum – Muskie Center in Waterville. She was a member of the Women’s Legislative Council of Maine. Marjorie enjoyed playing bridge and country line dancing. She also traveled extensively with trips to many countries in Europe as well as to Australia, New Zealand, Morocco, Egypt, Russia, Israel, through most of the United States, and to the Canadian Rockies. She had enjoyed a number of summer trips with her children and grandchildren to Prince Edward Island. More recently she has enjoyed being the Queen Mother of a local Red Hattersgroup “”Good Time Gals””. She is survived by her son, Michael Smallwood and his wife, Pamela, of Oakland; and her three grandsons, Samuel Smallwood and his wife, Robin, Jesse Smallwood and his wife, Jadian, and Caleb Smallwood all of Houlton. She is also survived by her brother, Wayne Buck, and his wife, Augustine, of Caribou; and her sister, Arlene Frechette of Portland; and by several nieces and nephews. At her request, there will be no public visiting hours or public funeral.
