NEWPORT – Marjorie Whitley, 86, died April 1, 2006, at a Pittsfield hospital. She was born April 17, 1919, at Garfield Plantation, a daughter of Charles and Hazel (Clayton) Patchell. She attended Newport schools and on Dec. 24, 1935, married Herbert Whitley. She had been employed at Banton’s Mills in Newport. Marjorie was a member of the Newport Jubilee Family Worship Center and Newport Senior Citizens. She is survived by four sons, Herbert Jr. of Pittsfield, Norman of Norway, Maine, Donald of Lincoln and Paul of Gardiner; two daughters, Faye Dunn and Joan Howard, both of Jacksonville, Fla.; 18 grandchildren; 26 great-grand-children; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Herb Whitley Sr.; a sister, Marie Boylan; and three brothers, George, Claude and John. Friends may call 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, April 4, at the Newport Jubilee Worship Center, where funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 5, with Pastor Carl Engstrom officiating.
