TREMONT – Martha D. Kirkpatrick, 88, died Dec. 19, 2007, in Tremont. She was born July 14, 1919, in Brockton, Mass., the daughter of Hjalmar C. and Ida S. (Berg) Nelson. Martha was an avid gardener and enjoyed hiking in her later years. She is survived by her nephews, Ronald B. Sawyer and wife, Carole, and Alex Sawyer, both of Southwest Harbor, Paul Nelson of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Wade Sawyer of Exeter; nieces, Martha L. Sawyer of Bryantown, Md., Nancy J. Sawyer of Southwest Harbor, Nichole Brown of Sarasota, Fla., and Elaine Nelson Brown of Brockton, Mass. Martha was predeceased by her beloved husband, David E. Kirkpatrick; two brothers, Martin Nelson and wife, Marge, and Milton Nelson and wife, Becky; one sister, Mildred Sawyer; and a brother-in-law, Burton Sawyer. Friends are invited to call 1-3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 22, at Jordan-Fernald, 1139 Main St., Mount Desert. Spring interment will be at Hillrest Cemetery, West Tremont.
