SHIN POND at MOUNT CHASE – After a long, respectful battle with cancer, Martie went home to be home with the Lord Feb. 26, 2008, while in Salisbury, Md., for the winter. She was born Sept. 10, 1933, in Sparrows Point, Md. Martie and Finley owned and operated Katahdin Lodge and Camps for 34 years, where she made many long and meaningful friendships with clients and employees. After retiring to Shin Pond, she became an active member of the Shin Pond Coffee Babes, where she enjoyed her Tuesday Bridge Club with “the girls.” Martie enjoyed traveling, especially a three month tour of the United States and Canada. She also enjoyed the outdoors, including long walks with her beloved pets. Martie and Finley were founders of the Whittington Center, New Mexico and lifetime supporters of the National Rifle Association. She is survived by sisters, Alice Bette Thornton of Virginia Beach, Va., and Janie Thomas of Salisbury, Md.; 11 nieces and nephews, 18 great-nieces and great-nephews, and 26 great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews. She is also survived by dear friends, Chuck Chanadet, Wayne and Linda Melvin, Eileen Fisher, John Birmingham, Brenda Bailey, Barbara Libby and numerous other cherished fri-ends. She was predeceased by her devoted caring husband of 51 years, Finley Clarke; loving parents, Henry E. and Louise M. Thomas; sisters, Dorothy Crisco, Lillian McGough and Katherine Schenning; niece, Linda Crisco; and nephew, Tom Dietz. A funeral service was held in Salisbury, Md. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
