BEALS – Martha O. (Alley) Fagonde, 90, went to be with the Lord June 29, 2008, surrounded by her family at Down East Community Hospital, after a brief illness. She was born April 10, 1918, in Jonesport, the daughter of the late Hiram and Addie (Beal) Alley. Martha graduated from Beals High School as valedictorian of her class. Martha will be remembered as a hard worker. She spent many years working at local sardine and clam factories. In 1971 she graduated with honors from the University of Maine – Machias with a bachelor’s degree in education. She taught for 13 years at Beals Elementary School. Martha was a member of the Maine Teachers Association. She was a lifelong member of Beals Advent Christian Church, where she taught Sunday school and the Women’s Class for many years. Martha was an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed the Red Sox. She enjoyed reading and knitting. Martha loved all animals, and especially her last cat, Skiddy Wit. Martha will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother and aunt, whose home was always filled with children. She is survived by her sons, Charles “Leckie” A. Fagonde Jr. of Beals, Nathan Evans Fagonde and wife, Jenny, of Beals and Rickey Evans Fagonde and wife, Sally, of Milbridge; grandchildren, Shawna Bickford and husband, Chuck, Ed Fagonde, Roy Fagonde and wife, Theresa, Peter Fagonde and wife, Danielle, all of Jonesport, Natalie White and husband, Steve, of Damariscotta, Jared Fagonde and wife, Jessica, of Beals, Rickey Fagonde II and companion, Heather, of Machias, Debbie Robinson and husband, Rowland, of Steuben and Nicole Look and husband, Chris, of Milbridge; great-grandchildren, Brett, Sierra, Shawn, Patrick, Dakota, Nathan, Liberty, Eben, Micah, Jonah, Rowland Jr., Rachel, Lauren, Morgan and Britny; many special nieces and nephews. She will be missed by many special friends and family. Martha was predeceased by her husband of 38 years, Charles Alexis Fagonde Sr.; sisters, Lovina, Minnie, Belva, Angelina and Hildreth; brothers, Harold, Erwin, Donald and Clifton; and two infant brothers. Visiting hours will be held 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, July 1, at Beals Advent Christian Church, where a funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 2, officiated by Pastor George Woodward.
