LUBEC – Martha V. Brown, 95, passed away June 14, 2005, at Oceanview Nursing Home, Lubec, after an extended illness. She was born Oct. 28, 1909, in Lubec, the daughter of the late Aubrey B. and Lovina (Small) Farmer. Martha grew up and attended school in Lubec. She worked for many years at the sardine factories in the area. In 1967 she moved to Connecticut. While in Connecticut, she worked at Mystic Seaport. Martha was very active in the I.O.O.F in Lubec. She was a member of the Lubec Congregational Church and was active in their Ladies Social Union. Martha was an avid reader, writer, and enjoyed knitting. She is survived by three daughters, Yvonne Bernhard of Deland, Fla., Maxine Barker and husband, Murray, of Lubec and Orange City, Fla., and Doris Joy and husband, Ben, of Lubec; grandchildren, James Sanford, Susan Gough, Dale, Dana, and Gregory Barker, John Corey, Ricky (Brown) Wilson, Kevin (Brown) Coffin, Julie Cook, Kim Ashby, and Terrie Woodruff; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Florence Newton of Brunswick, and Elaine Leavitt of Lubec; one brother, Royal Farmer of Brunswick; and many nieces, nephews, and good friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Eugene Brown; a son, Dallas Brown; and a daughter, Hazel Woodruff. Per Martha’s wishes there will be no visiting hours, but service information will be announced at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hazel Woodruff Scholarship Fund, care of Bar Harbor Bank and Trust, 68 Washington St., Lubec, ME 04652. Arrangements are under the care of Bragdon-Kelley-Campbell Funeral Home, Machias.
