LAS VEGAS and BANGOR Marvel Bernice (Washburn) Shannon, 88, died April 13, 2008, at a Las Vegas health care facility. She was born July 27, 1919, in Wytopitlock, the daughter of William and Hazel (Jenkins) Washburn. Marvel worked at Bangor Mental Health Institute for 31 years, retiring in 1981. After retirement, she stayed very active. She was a dietary aid at Mount Hope Convalescent Center, a food demonstrator at Shop n’ Save, an active senior citizen, and volunteered for many different local organizations. Marvel was also a former member of St. Mary’s Parish. She is survived by her two daughters, Donna and her husband, Ronald Reynolds Sr., of Hermon, and Sally Williams of Las Vegas; a son, Timothy Shannon of Las Vegas; one brother, Robert Washburn and his wife, Donna, of Monticello; seven grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Earl Shannon; daughter, Kathy Lou; grandson, John Reynolds; and son-in-law, Philip Williams. A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, May 17, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, with the Rev. Thomas Lequin Pastor of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, officiating.
