LINCOLNVILLE – Mary Ames Heald, 67, died suddenly, Sunday, Oct. 8, 2006, at her home. Born Sept. 22, 1939, in Camden, she was the daughter of Harold L. and Edna (Higgins) Ames. Mary was a 1957 graduate of Camden High School and attended Husson College, Bangor. During high school, Mary played on the Crimson Tide girl’s championship basketball team in the Knox-Lincoln League, which held the greatest record in Maine high school girl’s basketball history, having 88 consecutive wins. She married Charles C. Heald, June 22, 1958, in Camden. They moved to Easton, Pa. in 1960 and spent 35 happy years there raising their family. In 1995, they moved to Lincolnville to enjoy retirement “at the lake.” Mary was a long-time member of Palmer Moravian Church, Easton, Pa. and joined John Street United Methodist Church, Camden, upon returning to Maine. These extended families, along with the friendships she enjoyed while traveling extensively with Charlie, filled her days with great love and laughter. Mary will be missed by her husband of 48 years, Charles of Lincolnville, whom she adored; three children, Alan Heald of Saylorsburg, Pa., Jeffrey Heald and his wife, Cherie, of Endicott, N.Y., Nancy Jamann and her husband, Fred, of Bethlehem, Pa.; seven grandchildren, Jason Heald and his wife, Jean, Cliff Heald, Tiffany Seydl and her husband, Curt, Melissa Heald, Kevin Heald, Ashley Jamann and Jenna Jamann; four great-grandchildren, Colby, Abbey, Daniel and Damian; and her beloved border collie, Samantha. Mary is also survived by her brother, Leslie Ames and his wife, Faith, of South China; a sister, Nellie Hart and her husband, John, of Camden; a sister-in-law, Barbara Haining of Hemet, Calif.; a sister-in-law, Kathleen Heald of La Mesa, Calif.; many nieces, nephews and their families. She was predeceased by a great-grand-daughter, Bailey Heald; brothers-in-law Douglass Heald and Fred Haining. In keeping with her wishes, there will be no calling hours or funeral service. Private burial will be at Maplewood Cemetery, Lincolnville, at the convenience of the family. A memorial gathering will be announced at a later date.
