BANGOR – Mary B. “Detta” Powers, 73, wife of the late Douglas H. Powers, went to be with the Lord, and to see her family Dec. 9, 2005, at a Brewer healthcare facility. She was born July 8, 1932, in Bangor, the daughter of Frank and Catherine (McCluskey) Mullens. Mary attended St. Mary’s school and continued her education at John Baptist High School. Mary was a life long communicant of St. Mary’s Church. She had a lifelong devotion to St. Jude Society and was given the nickname of “Detta” as a child and it stuck for life. Detta was employed at the Eastern Maine Medical Center starting out in the business office in the early 1950’s and than worked 29 years in the communication department. She made long and lasting friendships with many people. Detta was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling, trips to Camden to watch the boats and eat lots of seafood. Detta was a Beano enthusiast, traveling to Old Town with Sharon D., leaving early to get a good seat and Friday night Beano in the Hampden VFW with Bev, Bobby, Pat and Alice for a fun evening out. Detta enjoyed the gardens contained on her deck. She is survived by a son, James Powers of Bangor; her cute little puppy, Mitzi; two grandchildren, Matthew and Ryan; many cousins, two special nieces, Paula M. Powers and Linda Pelletier. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by a son, John H. Powers, twin to James; and a daughter, Mary Ellen Powers Schenks. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 12, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 754 Ohio St., Bangor. The family invites relatives and friend to share conversation and refreshments at the St. Mary’s Parish Hall following the service. Interment will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Bangor.
