EAST MACHIAS – Mary Elizabeth Black, 80, passed away June 8, 2006, surrounded by her family and friends at Down East Community Hospital. She was born March 6, 1926, in East Machias, the daughter of the late John E. and Annie F. (Crocker) Black. She graduated from Washington Academy in 1944. Mary was a member of the Holy Name Catholic Church in Machias where she worked faithfully for 30 years. She was loved by all the families and children she cared for as a housekeeper/nanny. Mary enjoyed being outdoors and working in her flower gardens. She will be remembered for her flaming plum pudding and special pies. She loved spending time with her nieces, nephews and families as they were a great joy to her. She is survived by her sister, Rebecca “Becca” Reynolds; sister-in-law, Anna Black; nieces and nephews, Carla Whitney and Larry, Mary Lou Moore and husband, Hoppy, Ellen Sue Bridges and husband, Teddy, John Reynolds and wife, Michelle, Margaret Gagnon and husband, Tommie, Jamie Black and Lucille LaRue and husband, Ray; cousins; many great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews, Jordan, Alex, Bobby, Debbie, Chris, Timmy, Jeremy “J.,” Katie, Hayley, Cassidy, Shannon, Makenna, Dylan, Taylor, Gracee Sue and Logan; and many friends. She was predeceased by three brothers, Carlton, Frank and James Black; and brother-in-law, Henry Reynolds; nephew, Robert Black; and sister-in-law, Eleanor Black. A memorial service will be held at noon Wednesday, June 14, Bragdon-Kelley-Campbell Funeral Home, 6 Cooper St., Machias, with the Rev. John O’Hara “Father Jack” presiding. Burial will follow at the Village Cemetery in East Machias.
