OLD TOWN – Mary Louise Cyr, 92, passed away Thursday, May 29, 2008, at an Orono nursing home. She was born July 13, 1915, in Houlton, daughter of Albert Joe Palmer and Louise Bourgoyne Palmer. Mary was raised in Aroostook County and in the mid- 1930s, she relocated to Old Town, where she met her husband, Paul P. Cyr. Mary and Paul were married for 48 years, and together they raised their six children. Mary enjoyed years of employment at Phi Eta Kappa at the University of Maine. She also loved music, dancing, quilting, cooking, and spending time and traveling with her children and grandchildren. She spent her last years living at Marsh Island Apartments, where she had many great friends, especially Vivian Guay. Mary was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Paul Cyr; a son, Patrick Cyr; a brother, Ed Palmer; a daughter-in-law, Gladys Cyr; and a grandson, Michael Cyr. She is survived by five children, Richard Cyr and his wife, Ethel, of Old Town, Mary Guay and her husband, Martel, of Bradley, Clara Hokinson and her husband, Neil, of Berwick, James Cyr of Old Town, and Roger Cyr and wife, Van, of Levant; and her daughter-in-law, Francis Cyr. Mary is also survived by 16 grandchildren, Sharon Cyr, Karen Cyr, Patricia Niles, Lori Cyr, Ed Cyr, John Cyr, Tracy Cyr, Stephen Guay, Lisa Burton, Joe Guay, Rene Duckworth, Terry Hokinson, Paul Hokinson, Diane Hokinson, Brenda Gera and Sheryl Ann Weinberger; and 16 great-grandchildren. The family thanks the staff at St. Joseph Hospital and Orono Commons for their excellent care and compassion. Visiting hours will be held 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, June 3, at Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St., Old Town. A funeral Mass will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 4, at Holy Family Church, 429 Main St., Old Town, with Father Thomas Farley officiating. Family and friends are invited to a luncheon afterwards in the parish hall. Interment will be at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Old Town. Notes of condolences may be made at www.mem.com.
