HOULTON – Mary “Malee” M. Putnam, 89, died June 10, 2008, at a local hospital. She was born Jan. 13, 1919, in Houlton, the daughter of James and Doris (Waterall) Madigan. Malee was a member of Saint Mary of the Visitation Church, the Houlton Council of Catholic Women, Houlton Regional Hospital Ladies Auxiliary and a longtime member of Houlton Community Golf Course. Malee was very involved with Visiting Nurses of Aroostook and served as a board member. She is survived by two sons, Fred Putnam and his wife, Catherine, and Albert Putnam and his wife, Nancy, all of New Limerick; one daughter, Sarah Howland and her husband, Jeff, of Houlton; 12 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; one brother, Albert Madigan of Anapolis, Md.; two sisters, Lucia O’Brien of Acton, Mass., and Ann Madigan of Portland; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Albert Putnam; and three brothers, John, James and William Madigan. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Saturday at Saint Mary of the Visitation Church with the Rev. Ron LaBarre, celebrant. A time of fellowship will be held after at the parish center. Interment will take place at Houlton Evergreen Cemetery.
