PRESQUE ISLE and FORT FAIRFIELD – Mary S. Strout, 93, wife of the late Francis L. Strout, died Friday, June 2, 2006, at her Presque Isle residence. She was born Dec. 23, 1912, in Houlton, the daughter of J. Allen and Lottie (Clayton) Smith of Masardis. She was a graduate of Ricker Classical Institute, Houlton and Colby College, Waterville. On Aug. 16, 1939, she married Francis L. Strout. They made their home and career in education in various Maine towns, most recently Fort Fairfield. In addition to her parents, Mary was predeceased by her husband Feb. 3, 1978. She is survived by one son, Allen L. Strout and his fiance, Margie Becker, both of Orrington; one grandson, James Strout of Bangor. Mrs. Strout will be fondly remembered by friends and staff of Leisure Village, Presque Isle, the Currie family, Donna Fowler and Stew Slipp. A memorial service will be conducted 3 p.m. Wednesday, June 7, at the St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 166 Main St., Fort Fairfield, with the Rev. Robert Smith officiating. Private interment will take place at Ashland Municipal Cemetery. A time of fellowship with refreshments will be held at the church immediately after the memorial service.
