ORONO – Mary T. Baker, a strong and independent 100 year old, died peacefully May 23, 2006, at her residence with her family. She was born March 14, 1906, in Old Town, a daughter of Louis I. and Mary E. (Marquis) Leavitt. In her youth she was a beautiful model and performed in many local plays. Mary had several jobs outside the home, but happily lived her life as a homemaker. She was a communicant of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Orono. She is survived by daughter, Mary Ellen White and her husband, Ronald; son, Raymond F. Baker and his wife, Susan; and daughter, Kathy Baker; 13 grandchildren, Barry King, Tonia Haines and Carol Trottier, Bruce and Rose King, Jeffrey and Mel King, Peter and Karen White, Steve and Cindy Parady, Pam and Mike Bush, Kim Walker, Jan and Mike Carrol, Scott Parady, Marc Baker, Maria and Frank Perry, Aimee and Rudy Nadler; 20 great-grandchildren, Kori, Ryan, Amy, Wayne, Jessie, Angela, Ben, Pat, Shawn, Tia, Katy, Sam, Sarah, Molly, Dillon, Mia, Sarah, Cullan, Tallie, and Kyle; five great-great-grandchildren, Skyler, Kaitlen, Kayla, Emma and Jack; a special friend and caregiver, Leslie Peterson; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Raymond J. Baker; a son-in-law, Bernard Parady; and seven siblings. A celebration of her life will be conducted 10 a.m. Friday at Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St., Old Town, with the Rev. Bill Labbe officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Orono.
