MARY T. RICE HAMPDEN – Mary Theresa (Perry) Rice, 99, wife of the late Eugene H. Rice, passed away peacefully July 10, 2007, at a Bangor health care facility. She was born May 5, 1908, in Hampden, the eldest child of Joseph E. and Mary Matilda (Brennan) Perry. She attended St. Mary School and was a graduate of Girls’ Catholic High School, Bangor, in 1927, and Gilman Commercial School. Mary was employed as a bookkeeper at Farrar Furniture Co., Bangor, for 10 years. She married Eugene H. Rice, June 1938. Mary was a dedicated member of St. Matthew Catholic Church, Hampden; the Daughters of Isabella Ave Maria Circle No., 422; St. Mary Sodality; and the Hampden Historical Society. Mary enjoyed crocheting, knitting and violin music. Mary was predeceased by her husband in 1989; her parents and four brothers, Wilfred, Robert, Charles and John Perry. She is survived by her sister, Rose E. Kendrigan of Hampden; several nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held 4-7 p.m. Thursday at Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Ave., Hampden. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Friday at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 70 Western Ave., Hampden, with the Rev. Robert Vaillancourt, pastor, celebrant.
