SHERMAN – Mavis Nola Morgan, 81, died Oct. 29, 2004, at a Houlton nursing facility after a brief illness. She was born Jan. 22, 1923, in Sherman Mills, the daughter of Effie Maybell (Curtis) and Alvah Temple Perry. Mavis graduated from Sherman High School in 1941, where she was a member of the basketball team. She held a variety of jobs including caretaker of Sherman Cemetery, and Town of Sherman ballot clerk. She was an avid historian and enjoyed researching genealogy. She was a proud Red Sox Fan, a Democrat, and a regular attendant at the Church of Faith in Sherman for many years. She is survived by five sons, Russell and his wife, Sharon, Larry and his wife, Roanne, Michael and his wife Nancy, of Hermon, Marlon of Randolph, and Scott, of Sherman; one daughter, Mellony of Winterport; one sister, Gloria MacKenzie of East Millinocket; 20 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Herbert Morgan; and one daughter, Loretta Morgan Smiley. The family would like to extend a special thanks to her granddaughter, Windy, and the staff at Crestview Manor who cared for her until her recent illness. Friends may call 1-2 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 31, at Bowers Funeral Home, Island Falls, with funeral service being held at 2 p.m. with Pastor Sam DeWitt, officiating. Interment will be in the Sherman Mills Cemetery.
