BANGOR – Maxine S. Ludington, 99, died peacefully June 30, 2005, at her home in Bangor. Maxine was born Nov. 12, 1905, in West Enfield, a daughter of the late John Albert Swett and Clara Lucinda (Weymouth) Swett. She attended West Enfield schools and graduated salutatorian of the first graduating class from Howland High School in 1924. She attended Saint Lawrence University, graduated from Gorham Teacher’s College, Boston University with a bachelor of arts in education, and Columbia University with a master of arts in education. She taught fifth grade for 28 years in the Plymouth, Mass., school system. She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Plymouth, Mass. She was predeceased by her husband, Harry Ludington of Winstead, Conn.; two sisters, the Rev. Doris A. Swett and Hilda R. Swett, both of Plymouth, Mass.; one brother, Galen A. Swett of Howland; and a special nephew, John “Clifford” Swett of Howland. She is survived by her nieces, Barbara L. Swett and family of Hampden, and Maxine S. Perry and family of Bangor, and her nephew, Donald R. Swett and family of Howland; and the family of her late nephew, Clifford. For the past 19 years, Maxine had made her home with Maxine and Arthur Perry at 502 State St., in Bangor. In her later years of life she enjoyed reading, history, crocheting, and chatting and joke telling with the many of her grandnieces and grandnephews. There will be no visiting hours. Interment will be at the family lot in Oak Grove Cemetery in Plymouth, Mass. Those who wish may make donations in her name to New Hope Hospice, 1344 Main Road, Eddington, ME 04428. Arrangements are in the care of Foley Funeral Home, 299 Union St., Bangor.
