PLAINSTED – Melissa Blanchette, 91, died peacefully Dec. 13, 2005, at a Fort Kent healthcare facility surrounded by her family. She was born April 17, 1914, in Wallagrass, the daughter of John and Sadie (Savage) Laferierre. Melissa was a member of the Ladies of St. Anne of Wallagrass. She was a dedicated mother to her children. She had a deep faith in the Catholic religion and a great devotion to the rosary. She loved to cook and her hobbies were quilting, crocheting and knitting. She is survived by five children, Richard (Roland) and his wife, Dorothy, of Southington, Conn. and the mother of his children, Barbara Perry, Clarence and his wife, Bernice, of Bristol, Conn., Patricia Bouchard and her husband, Lorien, of Southington, Conn., Ernest and his wife, Linda, of New Canada and Maurice and his wife, Diane, of Bangor; a close and special halfsister, Carol Furlong of Eagle Lake; 11 grandchildren, David, Cindy, Todd, Danny, Lisa Marie, Paula, Sandra, Steve, Jeffrey, Robin and Melissa; 10 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Thaddie Blanchette on Dec. 2, 1976. In addition to both parents and her husband, she was predeceased by a son, Lawrence and six brothers and sisters, Pearl Martin, Hazel Lozier, Harold, Herman, Lester and Maurice Shaw. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Thursday and 8:30 a.m. Friday until time of departure for Soldier Pond at Daigle & Nadeau Funeral Home, Fort Kent. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Soldier Pond. Spring burial will be held May 19, 2006, at St. Joseph Cemetery in Wallagrass. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may donate in her memory to Visiting Nurses of Aroostook, P.O. Box 688, Caribou, ME 04736. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
