WEST BROOKSVILLE and SOUTH WINDSOR, Conn. – Merle Parker Tapley, 86, husband of Dorothy (Parker) Tapley, formerly of South Windsor, Conn., died Tuesday, June 27, 2006, at Masonic Home and Hospital. Born Feb. 10, 1920, in West Brooksville, son of the late Jerome Perkins Tapley and Ada Littlefield (Mills) Tapley, he had lived in South Windsor, Conn. for more than 60 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II serving with the medical corps. Before retiring, he was employed as a writer and editor for Hamilton Standard, Division of United Technologies and was a stair builder and cabinetmaker. Merle was a member of the First Congregational Church of South Windsor, Conn. He was a member and past worshipful master of Masonic Evergreen Lodge No. 114, AF & AM in South Windsor, Conn. He leaves his sister, Rebecca Grindle of Dorchester, Mass.; niece, Myrtle G. Crowley of Dorchester, Mass.; four nephews, Dean E. Tapley of Leatherhead, England, Halton T. Grindle of New Hampshire, Delvin Grindle of Bellingham, Mass. and Emery A. Tapley of South Windsor, Conn.; and many great-nieces and great-nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Edward J. Tapley. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at the First Congregational Church, 993 Main St., South Windsor, Conn., with the Rev. David Snyder officiating. Burial will be private in Center Cemetery, South Windsor, Conn. A masonic service will be held in conjunction with the religious service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First Congregational Church, P.O. Box 165, South Windsor, CT or to Evergreen Lodge No. 114, Main Street, South Windsor, CT 06074.
