BAR HARBOR – Mertice Verlette Buzzell, 83, died Oct. 9, 2003, at an Ellsworth healthcare facility. She was born Feb. 29, 1920, in West Tremont, the daughter of Everett and Bessie (Joyce) Black. She worked as a cook at Sonogee for many years and was a longtime member of the Church of Our Father in Hulls Cove. She is survived by two sons, Robert Buzzell and wife, Denise, of Bar Harbor and Gary Buzzell and wife, Martha, of Southwest Harbor; two daughters, Joyce Poole of Sevierville, Tenn., and Carole Jean and husband, William Middleton of Annapolis, Md.; one brother, Clayton Black of Bernard and one sister, Marion Farley of West Tremont; 12 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Mertice was predeceased by her husband, Fulton Buzzell and a special friend, Bernard Davis. Friends are invited to call 5-7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 13, 2003, at Jordan-Fernald, Bar Harbor Chapel, 48 Eden St. Graveside services will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, at Hillside Cemetery, Hulls Cove, with the Rev.
