KINGMAN – Mervin D. Linscott, 78, died peacefully Monday, Sept. 6, 2004, at a Lincoln hospital. He was born May 26, 1926, in Kingman, the son of the late Clyde C. and Annie Mae (Bishop) Linscott. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1944 and served aboard the USS LST 53 in the Pacific and Asiatic Theatres until his honorable discharge in 1946. Soon afterwards he began a road construction business, owning and operating many pieces of heavy equipment. For many years he contracted with Penobscot County to do snow removal in Kingman and surrounding towns. In the late 1960’s he owned and operated a Kenworth 18-wheeler and hauled produced from Maine to Florida and back to Montreal. In the mid-70’s, after the birth of his first grandson, he decided to stick closer to home. He sold his truck and began working for Forster Mfg. In Mattawamkeag, retiring in 1988. He was affiliated with the Mattawamkeag Bible Baptist Church where he sang Country Gospel and played wooden spoons for the glory of the Lord. He was a lifetime member of the Mattawamkeag VFW. He was an avid salmon and toque fisherman, spending hours doing so on Pleasant Lake in Topsfield. He was always willing to offer advice on how to catch “the big one.” He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Lorraine (Worster) Linscott of Kingman; his daughter and her husband, Vicki and Danny Noble of Kingman. He was “Gramp” to his grandchildren, Michael and Heather Noble of Lincoln, Jason and Amy Noble of Lee, and Amanda Noble of Milford, and “PaPa” to his precious one year old great-granddaughter, Madeline Belle Noble of Lincoln, who he called “the little princess.” He is also survived by one sister, Rachel Clark and her husband, Al, of Syracuse, N.Y.; many nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews; and several cousins. He was predeceased by eight brothers and sisters, William “Kifer” Linscott, Earle “Brock” Linscott, Herbert L. Linscott, Lillith LaCasse, Alma Stenberg, Thelma DeCrow, Laura Savage and Nettie Coburn. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 11, 2004, at the Mattawamkeag Bible Baptist Church with Pastor Steve McNally officiating. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. prior to the service. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, those who wish may donate in his memory to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 1833, Merrifield, VA 22116-8033. “May God cradle you in the Palm of His Hand.” Pastor Gary Horton.
