TWIN MOUNTAIN, N.H. Mildred E. (Bragg) Monahan, 86, passed away Saturday, Aug. 25, 2007, with her family at her side at home. She was born Feb. 18, 1921, in Canterbury, New Brunswick, daughter of Levi and Edith Estey Merrithew, one of 11 children. The family moved to Pittsfield in 1922. Mildred was raised and educated in Pittsfield, graduating from Maine Central Institute in 1939. “Mimi,” as she was affectionately called by family and friends, married Frederick Thomas Bragg of Twin Mountain, N.H., in Battlecreek, Mich., Dec. 24, 1943, where Fred was attending OCS for the U.S. Army. This was the beginning of a 35-year military career for Mimi and Fred. Through this experience, Mimi and family visited and lived in many locales of the U.S. and Europe. Mimi often commented that, “she had moved and lived in 37 locations throughout her lifetime.” Mimi and her husband retired to Twin Mountain, N.H., in 1977. Mildred “Mimi” was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grand-mother, who enriched the lives of many, both family and friends with her gentle and caring touch. Mimi had a long time passion for writing, specifically keeping in touch with much loved family and friends she had met throughout her life. She enjoyed reading, crocheting and donating to many causes, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her first husband, Frederick Thomas Bragg, Sept. 8, 1982; her second husband, Laurence E. Monahan of Lake Placid, Fla., March 9, 1992, as well as eight sisters and brothers. Surviving family members include, one son, Dennis W. Bragg of Twin Mountain, N.H.; six daughters, Diane L. Talotta of Twin Mountain, N.H., Deborah L. Farley of Ashburnham, Mass., Ann M. Strickland of Gainesville, Fla., Maureen M. Campbell of Longmont, Colo., Mary E. Mekkelsen of Bethel Park, Pa., and Jane A. Monahan of Decator, Ga.; two sisters, Verna Hanson of Gardner, Mass., and Elizabeth Randall and husband, Earl, of Newport. Mimi was blessed with many loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 28, at Whitefield Community Baptist Church, Jefferson Road, Whitefield, N.H. A lunch and fellowship will be held at the church after the service. At 2 p.m. a committal service will be held at St. Margaret Cemetery, Twin Mountain, N.H.
