LYNN, Mass., ROCHESTER, N.H., and PATTEN – With her family gathered together, Mildred ‘Millie’ M. (Wallis) Twitchell, 80, passed peacefully and gracefully from this world to the next Sunday, Dec. 30, 2007, at Ledgewood Nursing Center, Beverly, Mass. She was the much-loved wife and friend of Elmer G. Twitchell, with whom she shared nearly 62 years of marriage. Born May 26, 1927, in Danvers, Mass., she was the daughter of the late Emma (Bradstreet) Wallis. She grew up in Lynn, Mass., and was a 1945 graduate of Lynn English High School. She was a member of the National Honor Society and very proud of that accomplishment. She married her husband, Elmer, in 1946 and was a homemaker, devoted wife and mother, who enjoyed raising their family. A talented seamstress, Millie’s reputation as a gifted tailor was well known among family, friends and the community. She was also an active member and past president of the Lynn Evening Division Women’s Club. She was predeceased by her son, Robert Twitchell, in 2002; her mother, Emma (Brad-street) Wallis; her stepfather, Elbridge Wallis; and a brother, Elbridge Wallis Jr. Survivors include her children, Carol Endicott and her husband, William, of Eliot, Susan Steinman and her husband, Warren, of Santa Fe, N.M., James Twitchell and his wife, Nada, of Westborough, Mass., Elaine Twitchell of Quincy, Mass., and Mary Ann McGrath and her husband, Douglas, of Cornish Flat, N.H.; and seven grandchildren, Christopher Blain, Justin Twitchell, Ashley Twitchell, Samantha Twitchell, Li Miao Steinman, Shauna McGrath and Robert McGrath. She is also survived by three sisters, Pat Teague and her husband, John, of Lynn, Mass., Barbara Walker and Edna MacGregor of McConnellsburg, Pa.; and two brothers, George Wallis and his wife, Carol, of Lynn, Mass., and Luther Wallis and his wife, Joyce, of Lakeville, Mass. She will also be sadly missed by her many nieces and nephews; and by her special friends, Hope and Frank Nerden of Danvers, Mass. Her funeral will be held 11 a.m. Friday at Solimine, Landegan & Richardson Funeral Home, 426 Broadway, Route 129, Lynn, Mass. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday Interment will be at Pine Grove Cemetery, Lynn, Mass., at a later date.
