LAS VEGAS and MATTAWAMKEAG – Mildred P. Grillo, 84, died Nov. 8, 2007, at a Las Vegas hospital. Mildred was born Dec. 16, 1922, in Mattawamkeag, the daughter of Frank and Bessie (Bowley) Knight. She graduated from Mattawamkeag High School in 1940 and Milford Hospital School of Nursing, Milford, Mass., in 1944. She stayed on to work at the hospital. In 1950 she married Dominic Grillo, who predeceased her in 1998. Her life was busy with her nursing career, home, family and traveling when time permitted. The last few years she had suffered from increasing mobility problems, but never lost her positive attitude. She enjoyed reading, doing puzzles and her weekly letters from Maine. She is survived by her son, Frank of Las Vegas; her sister, Violet Pettengill of Mattawamkeag; a nephew, Roger Pettengill and Marianne of New York; a close family friend, Vera Thibeau of Bangor; cousins; and her canine companion, Penny. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her parents; by a brother, Francis Knight; and a sister, Shirley. Services will be held at a later date.
