BREWER and MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – Minnie H. Jones, 93, of Brewer, died March 19, 2006, at a Middletown, Conn. healthcare center. She was born Aug. 30, 1912, in Brewer, the daughter of Clarence T. and Flora H. (Jones) Hodgkins. She attended the Holden grammar school, was a 1930 graduate of Brewer High School, and in 1933, she graduated from the Eastern Maine General Hospital School of Nursing. Min will be remembered for her kind and gracious ways, working in admissions at Eastern Maine Medical Center and also as the charge nurse in the orthopedic department. After retirement, she volunteered her time at Eastern Maine Medical Center for more than 20 years, and was honored with several awards. Min was known for “The World’s Best Apple Pies” and her beautiful knitting. Min was a member of the Holden Congregational Church and was a former board member of the Phillips-Strickland House, Bangor. Surviving are one daughter, Sally Elliott and her husband, Robert, of Portland, Conn.; five grandchildren, Stacey MacQuinn of South Carolina, Adam W. MacQuinn of Portland, Sarah (Elliott) Caratasio, Michael Elliott, and Michelene Haagenson, all of Connecticut; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three brothers, Alvin, Edwin and Henry Hodgkins; and two sisters, Alice Carter and Myrtle Taylor. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, March 24, at Brookings-Smith, Clark-Piper Chapel, 55 South Main St,. Brewer, with the Rev. Dana Douglass, pastor of the Holden Congregational Church officiating. Friends may call 1 p.m. Friday until time of service at the funeral home.
