PITTSFIELD – Muriel H. York, 79, a resident of North Main Street, died peacefully Thursday, April 19, 2007, surrounded by her family at Sebasticook Valley Health Care. She was born May 29, 1927, in Greenbush, a daughter of William and Mary (Harris) Spencer. Muriel graduated from Maine Central Institute, Pittsfield, and was employed by North East Shoe, Pittsfield, for many years. She was a life long member of Church of Christ, Pittsfield. She loved to spend time with her family. She was well known for her creative ability in sewing life-like characters. One of Muriel’s favorite pastimes was going for an afternoon adventure in her car; she loved exploring new places as she drove. She and her late husband traveled to many places around the state of Maine, enjoying the great views of Mount Katahdin and many other famous sites. She was predeceased by her husband, Richard W. York in 2003; a son, Dana Brooks; a daughter, Arlene Nicholas; two brothers, Neal and Galen Spencer; and a sister, Audrey Ramsdell. She is survived by two daughters, Mary Mixer and her husband, Stephen, of Pittsfield and Sherry Hennigan and her husband, Dennis, of Rindge, N.H.; a son, Roy Brooks of Pittsfield; 10 grandchildren, seven great-grand-children; a brother, Clemont Spencer and his wife, Kate, of Pittsfield; and a sister, Priscilla Grant of Brooklyn.
