BROOKLIN – Muriel V. (Komstedt) Reiss, born Sept. 18, 1911, in the Bronx, New York City, daughter of Robertina and Erik Komstedt, died peacefully, Nov. 7, 2004, with her daughter and caregiver, Carol, by her side. Muriel led a full life, devoting much of her time to family and volunteer work at Blue Hill Hospital and Meals for ME. She started a group to care for victims and families of Alzheimer and Dementia affliction, which has evolved to be Robert and Mary’s Place, Meadowview, Ellsworth, at which she volunteered even after her 90th birthday. She is survived by her devoted daughter Carol Mangels of Brooklin, with whom she lived; daughter-in-law, Alma L. Thompson of Bar Harbor; grandsons, Kenneth W. and wife, Katherine Reiss, of Port St. Lucie, Fla., Douglas J. Mangels of Ft. Myers, Fla.; granddaughters, Kim Reiss and husband, Kenneth Stack, of Ellsworth, Lori J. Gallo and husband, Paul H. Gallo, of Brooklin; great-grandchildren, Adam Hilton of Bar Harbor, William J. Reiss III of Port St. Lucie, Fla., and Adrienne Reiss Stack of Ellsworth; special nephews, the Rev. Col. William A. Komstedt, Jr., and wife, Martha, of The Villages, Fla., and Robert Komstedt and wife, Marilyn, of Howells, N.Y.; special niece, Myrtle and her son, John Tobin of Las Vegas, Nev.; and her loving cat, Pixie. Muriel was predeceased by her husband, William J. Reiss Sr. in 1969; and son, William J. Reiss Jr. in 1975. The family wishes to thank all those who visited with Muriel, sent cards, or offered prayers for her. They also offer special thanks to the Rev. Emily Taylor of the Union Congregational Church of Ellsworth Falls for her many visits with Muriel and calls to Carol. Recognition is also given to the caring and compassionate management and caregivers at Collier’s Rehabilitation and Nursing Home. At the family’s request, there will be no visiting hours. A Service of Remembrance will be held immediately following the 10 a.m. worship service, Sunday, Nov. 21, 2004, at the Union Congregational Church, Ellsworth Falls.
