BANGOR – Myrle (Elwell) Coffey, 95, wife of the late Leslie W. Coffey of Bangor, died June 11, 2005, at a local hospital. She was born July 23, 1909, in Scarborough, daughter of Leon C. and Mildred (Libby) Elwell. Myrle was a graduate of Westbrook High School and Swathmore College, West Chester, Penn. with a bachelor of science degree in music education. She was supervisor of music for 34 years in the public schools of Presque Isle and Bangor. Myrle was a member of the Penobscot and the Maine State Retired Teachers Association. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Bangor and a former member of Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority. Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Leona Doucette of Windham and Mrs. Bette Leighton of Westbrook; nieces, nephews and very special friends, David and Peggy Swett of Orrington and June Shannon of Bangor. She was predeceased by a sister, Pearl Elwell; and two brothers, Clyde and Bernard Elwell. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 15, 2005, at the First United Methodist Church, 703 Essex St., Bangor with the Rev. Dr. Randall C. Chretien, pastor officiating. Friends may call at the church from 10 a.m. until time of service Wednesday. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments in the fellowship hall immediately following the service. Interment will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Bangor.
