JONESBORO – Myrtle E. McLaughlin, 84, died Feb. 11, 2008, at Marshall Health Care Facility. She was born July 7, 1923, in Cutler’s Bay, the daughter of the late Alexander and Viola (Ackley) Foss. Her favorite hobbies were crocheting many babies outfits and also afghans for the Veterans’ Home. She also made wreaths for many years. Myrtle was married in 1944 to Harris W. Smith Sr. of Jonesboro, with whom she raised eight children. She is survived by her children, Jane Hover and husband, Donald, of Connecticut, Raymond C. Smith and wife, Beverly, Walter Smith and wife, Tracy, all of Jonesboro, Elsie Berube and husband, Ray, of Connecticut, Bruce Smith and wife, Loni, of Jonesboro, and David Smith and wife, Monique, of Whitneyville; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brothers, Roger Foss and Alden Foss; sisters, Marie Smith, Edith Foss and Mary Ellen; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sons, Ira and Harris Smith Jr., both of Jonesboro; and brothers, Harry Foss and Alexander Foss Jr. Visiting hours will be held 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 14, at Bragdon-Kelley-Campbell Funeral Home, Machias, where a funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 15, with Pastor Pam Mushero officiating.
