SOUTHWEST HARBOR Myrtle Louilla White, 92, died May 3, 2008, at a Bangor hospital. She was born Jan. 16, 1916, in Jonesport, the daughter of Thomas Frank and Olive Lizzie (Alley) Faulkingham. Myrtle spent her life in lighthouses until she was school age. She attended all her school years at Jonesport schools and went on to graduate from Golden Beauty Hairdressing School, Portland. She returned to Southwest Harbor and started to work for Curtis Brown at Watson’s Dry Cleaners in 1952, where she worked for 20 years. In 1972 Myrtle built her own gift shop while continuing to work for Watson’s until 1988. She made many friends, especially children. Myrtle and Les were one of the founding members of the Southwest Harbor/Tremont Ambulance Association. Myrtle is survived by her beloved husband, Leslie “Jitterbug” White Jr.; several nieces, nephews; and one special nephew, Reggie Faulkingham and his wife, Sonya, of Orrington. She was predeceased by a brother, John; and sister, Mina. Graveside services will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 6, at Mount Height Cemetery, Southwest Harbor, with Pastor J. Blake Brown presiding.
