BREWER – Natalie G. Higgins passed peacefully into the garden of heaven June 14, 2006, with her family at her side. She was born April 20, 1933, in Carmel, the daughter of Linwood and Alice (Emery) Hawes. Nat worked with Bob for many years as co-owner – manager of Edwards/Yudy’s Tire Co. in Brewer. Nat thoroughly enjoyed meeting the public and chatting with customers. There they made many lasting friendships. Nat was an avid gardener. She enjoyed collecting dolls, ceramics, crossword puzzles, crafts, decorating her home, oil painting and animals. She always looked forward to Fryeburg Fair week in October. She and Bob had many happy times there. Times at their camps at Old Stream and Second Chain Lake also will always be remembered as special times. Anytime Nat could enjoy with family and friends would be quality times for her. Throughout her illness Nat was able to maintain her sense of humor and showed much courage. We will always be grateful for the time recently spent reminiscing about happy family memories. Nat is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Robert of Brewer; daughter, Lynne and Allen Lovely of Bangor; granddaughters, Melissa and James Thaxton of Vermont and Tena and Jaime Sarabia of Georgia; great-grandchildren, Diego Robert and Miguel-Andres Sarabia and Madeleine Natalie Thaxton; numerous special nieces, nephews and other extended family. She will be sadly missed by “Champie,” their loving sheltie. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Bobby; and sister, Betty. The Higgins family would especially like to thank the entire staff of Ross Manor for their devoted care and compassion shown to Nat and her family. We were always treated with kindness, taking great comfort in the dedication shown to Nat’s care. A funeral service will be held noon Saturday, June 17, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, with the Rev. Dr. James L. Haddix, pastor and teacher All Souls Congregational Church, officiating. Friends may call 10 a.m. until time of service. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments after the service at the Brookings-Smith Family Center, 163 Center St., Bangor. A graveside service will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 21, at Mount Hope Cemetery, where family and friends are asked to meet at 10:15 a.m. at the Superintendent’s Lodge, State Street entrance. Gifts in her memory may be sent to Cancer Care of Maine, care of Eastern Maine Charities, P.O. Box 404, Bangor, ME 04402-0404. Condolences to the family may be expressed at www.BrookingsSmith.com
