BREWER – Nellie Huey Verrill, wife of Desmond Verrill, died June 14, 2008, at her home. She was born March 2, 1926, in Roxbury, Mass., the daughter of William Huey and Pearl (Frost) Huey Clark. Her stepfather was Raymond Clark of Hermon. Nellie attended Hermon schools and graduated from Hermon High School in 1943. She then attended the Maine School of Commerce until called to work as a civilian typist at the Womens Army Corps Recruiting office, Bangor. After her marriage in 1944, she remained at home until her children were in high school. She worked in the offices of Chevron Oil Co., Hampden and AMFESCO, Brewer, before her retirement. She was a past matron of John R. Chase Chapter Order of the Eastern Star of Carmel, a past grand representative of the State of Indiana in Maine, past district deputy grand matron of District No. 16 and made a life member in 1987 and past grand chaplain of the Grand Chapter of Maine Order of the Eastern Star. She also enjoyed crocheting, reading and flying with her husband in their airplane. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Desmond; son, Gary Verrill of Carmel; daughter, Linda Smith of Hampden; grandson, Timothy Verrill of Hermon; granddaughter, Michelle Verrill of Hermon; three great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents of Hermon; sister, Edith Duran Look of Machias; and son-in-law, Berton Smith of Brewer. A memorial service for Nellie will be held at a later date, to be announced in a future edition of the Bangor Daily News.
