BLUE HILL – Norma B. Ricker, 82, wife of the late Wilbur G. Ricker, died Thursday, Nov. 11, 2004, at Blue Hill hospital. She was born Aug. 1, 1922, in Rockland, the daughter of William C. and Alice G. (Gross) Babson. Norma was a graduate of George Stevens Academy, Class of 1939 and attended the University of Maine. She worked as a nurses aide at Maine Coast Memorial Hospital in Ellsworth for several years. Norma had also worked for many years at Rowantrees Pottery in Blue Hill, helping to produce handcrafted blueberry ware. She was an avid gardener, prolific hat knitter, and a superb baker of donuts, bread, muffins and brownies. Norma was artistic in everything she touched. She was the Women’s State Rifle Champion for several years and in the 1950s and 60s and earned a mention in Sports Illustrated for her shooting ability. Norma also enjoyed dancing and spent many Saturday evenings with her husband doing so at the Blue Goose Dance Hall in Northport. She was devoted to her entire family, staying in close contact with her children, grandchildren and siblings. Norma is survived by three children, Karyl Hayes and her husband, Richard, of South Hamilton, Mass., Linda MacLeod and her husband, David, of Scarborough and Penny Sawyer and her husband, Rick, of Blue Hill; eight grandchildren, Richard Hayes, Lori Hayes, Alison (MacLeod) Sekelsky, Melissa Rioux, Patrick Rioux, Robin Rioux, William Ricker and Jed Sawyer; one great-grandson, Bennett Hayes; two sisters, Sheila Varnum and Serita Bowden; a brother, Bill Babson; many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Bill, Norma was predeceased by her beloved son, Robin Ray Ricker. Friends are invited to visit with the family 6-8 p.m. Saturday at the Bragdon-Kelley-Campbell Funeral Home, 215 Main St., Ellsworth. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at the First Congregational Church of Blue Hill, 22 Tenney Hill, with the Rev. Robert McCall, pastor, officiating.
