ORRINGTON – Norma Elcena Ford, 83, wife of the late Wallace R. Ford, went home to be with her Lord Jan. 20, 2008, at a local hospital, after a brief illness. She was born May 26, 1924, in Hampden, the daughter of Frederick and Laura (Carmichael) Hamel. Norma attended schools in Hampden. She was a member of Orrington Center Church and regularly attended both worship and social events. Norma particularly enjoyed seeing her great-granddaughters, Hannah and Emily, sing and play the piano during church activities. She also enjoyed frequent visits from her daughter and son-in-law from California, as well as from her great-grandson, Hunter. Norma delighted visiting with people wherever she went, always looking forward to her Tuesday luncheons with her special friend, Helen, her Sunday meals at Olive Garden and frequent trips to the Bangor Mall and Wal-Mart in her Buick. When resting at home, Norma could usually be found listening to or watching Daniel O’Donnell. As a fan club member, she had an extensive collection of his videos and tapes. Norma will be remembered as a very special mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and mother-in-law. Having a fondness for sweets, she would often enjoy a few and share the rest with her family. She loved family gatherings. Her stories of earlier flying and hunting adventures with her husband, Wallace, were always a highlight. They will be greatly missed. Norma is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Brenda Ford and Rodney Pitchford of Dublin, Calif., and Stetson, Rinda and Gary Quimby of Orrington; a granddaughter, Kris Leonard, her husband, Ray and daughters, Hannah and Emily, of Orrington; a grandson, Pat Wardwell of Bangor and his son, Hunter; a step-grandson, Ken Quimby of Orrington; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Wallace Ford; and her son, Wallace Ford Jr. During Norma’s last days with us, she often spoke of spending eternity with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We are blessed to know she is with Him now! At Norma’s request, there will be no memorial service. A private graveside committal service will be held in the spring at Dixmont Corner Cemetery.
